I cannot believe Jax is six weeks old! Time has passed so quickly and I finally feel like we have settled into a routine. The middle of the night feeding sessions aren't as rough as they were a few weeks ago...in fact, I almost look forward to seeing our little goober and spending time with him every three hours. With month one behind us, I thought it would be fun to share the baby items that I absolutely love and made those first weeks smoother with Jax. Boon Grass Drying Rack The Boon grass is perfect for placing all of our bottle and pump parts to dry. Because of a swallowing problem, Jax cannot breastfeed for the time being. I have to pump every few hours so we can mix rice cereal with my breastmilk before we feed him. This means we are washing loads of bottles, rings, nipples, and Medela pump parts up to ten times a day. I think this little patch of "grass" is cute and don't mind it sitting on our counter for the next few months. It has certainly made the washing/drying process easier for us! Dr. Brown's Bottle Brush Again, lots and lots of bottle and pump part cleaning happening right now! My sister-in-law gave me this brush and I love it. One end is specifically designed to clean the inside of nipples! The other end is great because it has both a sponge and bristles. I have found that it cleans much better than the brushes that only have bristles. Babyganics Foaming Dish and Bottle Soap Are you seeing a trend here? Since we probably spend at least two hours a day cleaning the bottles and pump parts, these items have become invaluable to me! I love this plant-based foaming bottle soap. Boudreaux's Butt Paste Jax got a little diaper rash when he was one week old. I had heard of Butt Paste during all of my baby researching, and always thought the name was a bit ridiculous. However, I now swear by this stuff! We covered baby's little bottom with this diaper cream, and his rash was noticeably better within 24 hours! It also smells good too, which is definitely an added bonus! Medela Pump In Style Breast Pump My insurance gave me this pump and I've been super pleased with it! Pumping eight to ten times a day is rough, so having a good pump was very important to me. For all of you pumping moms, check to see if your insurance will cover a pump, and see if you can get Medela's "Pump in Style!" "Rain" Noise Jax was insanely fussy one night, and no matter what Jeff and I did, we couldn't seem to get him to calm down. We don't have a white noise machine, but I had the idea to search on iTunes for any white noise soundtracks I could quickly purchase. I have "The Happiest Baby on the Block" book, and was excited when I found a soundtrack for it! I quickly downloaded it on my phone, and played it next to Jax's bassinet. He fell asleep within minutes-hallelujah! Both Jax and parents prefer the "rain" track on the CD. I play in on loop every night now and it works wonders! Milk Snob Cover I love my Milk Snob cover. This awesome product is really five products in one! It can stretch to become a car seat cover, shopping cart cover, nursing cover, stroller cover, and stylish scarf! I love using it as a car seat cover when it is windy on our walks, or when we are out in public to discourage look-loos from touching Jax. Crane Drop Shape Humidifier With Jax being born close to winter, and our heater now cranked up 24/7, this humidifier was a must for us. I unfortunately forgot to unpack and use our Crane "drop" humidifier during baby's first week home. After I remembered we had it in our closet, we started using it every night and Jax's congestion cleared right up! This thing is awesome and very quiet. Plus, it looks neat too! HALO Bassinest "Essentia Series" This is probably my favorite baby item. We had a very traumatizing scare when Jax was only five days old where he stopped breathing twice. After rushing to the ER and spending several nights in the hospital, I was paranoid about it happening again. We originally had the Monte "Ninna Nanna" bassinet in our room for Jax. It's beautiful and stylish, but worried me since the sides are solid and Jax could suffocate if he rolled over and was stuck against one of the walls. We bought the Halo "Bassinest" the day after we were discharged from the ER/hospital and I cannot express how much I love it. The sides are mesh so I can see Jax all night, and I don't have to worry about him suffocating if he gets pressed up against the walls of the bassinet. It can also swivel 360 degrees and can be raised and lowered to whatever height you want! Right now, we have the feet/stand tucked under our bed, and the bassinet raised and actually resting on our bed right next to me. It's the safest way to "co-sleep" and I feel so comforted having him within arms reach. Seriously, if you are wanting a bassinet, this one is definitely worth the splurge and you won't regret buying it! Peace of mind is priceless when you're a sleep deprived and anxious first-time parent! 4Moms Mamaroo I first mentioned the Mamaroo in my 35 Week Pregnancy Check-In. Little did I know just how useful this infant swing/rocker would be for us! Jax absolutely loves the Mamaroo and can sleep in it for hours if I let him. It has five different motions, four different sounds (rain, heartbeat, ocean, fan), an auxiliary cord, and bluetooth capability. This has been a lifesaver when I'm alone with Jax and need to run to the bathroom or grab a quick shower. All I do is buckle him in the Mamaroo, watch him quickly fall asleep, and am able to get a few minutes without a baby in my arms. Chicco Keyfit 30 Infant Car Seat and Base My mom got us the Chicco Keyfit 30 infant car seat and we love it. It's super lightweight and very easy to get in and out of my car. We also bought an adapter for our stroller (see below) so we can use this car seat with it too! HALO SleepSack According to "The Happiest Baby on the Block," swaddling is one of the five things that will instantly calm a baby. However, in order to avoid the risk of infant hip dysplasia, it's important to not swaddle the baby's hips and knees in an extended position. This particular sleep sack has lots of "legroom to allow safe swaddling and free movement of the hips and knees." We use these sleep sacks to swaddle Jax every night, and he immediately seems comforted and quickly drifts off to sleep. UPPAbaby Vista Stroller This stroller was another gift from my mom. I use it for our daily walks and am so happy we decided to go with this particular stroller. It is very easy to maneuver and has a giant, easily accessible basket that's perfect for my diaper bag, purse, and other odds and ends. It also came with a bassinet which we use around the house when Jax takes naps. This stroller folds in half quickly and then stands on its own making storage a breeze. Kinderglo Night Light This portable nightlight has been a lifesaver for our late night feedings and diaper changes. We hate turning on ceiling lights in the middle of the night as they seem to make Jax fussy and wake him up. The Kinderglo Night Light is small, cute, and can move with us from room to room. It can be set to a variety of colors (blue, green, red, purple, yellow) but according to research, red night lights are ideal. So every night, I set our little night light to the soft red glow, and enjoy being able to see Jax without disrupting his sleep. Your Turn: -What were some of your newborn favorites?
