What you eat after a training session can dramatically change your results. Did you know that eating immediately after a workout is the best time to eat? After a workout, your body need calories to start refueling and repairing itself. Like I said in my previous post, protein is even more important after a hard workout. Your body will use it to repair the muscles that you broke down during your training session. Also, your body will automatically use the calories you eat for good, such as repairing and recovering, and not for bad, such as fat storage-yuck! Your metabolism is at its highest after you workout, so use that time to eat a full meal, and feel good about all the calories you just burned! SourceHere is a post workout smoothie that I love to have after an intense weightlifting session. You can even replace the Carnation's Instant Breakfast with you own favorite protein powder!
I have also been eating a lot of sweet potatoes recently. Here is a recipe I used that added a little bit of protein, and an extra sweet flavor without a ton of calories! I devoured this in about a minute because it was so yummy! 1. Microwave the potato for 5-7 minutes. 2. Cut it open, and add 2 teaspoons of coconut oil. 3. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of your favorite chocolate protein powder (I used "Optimum Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein in 'Double Rich Chocolate'"). 4. Add a small handful of walnuts. 5. Enjoy!! 🙂Lastly, my boyfriend and I went to a wedding recently where they served bacon wrapped shrimp that were smothered in BBQ sauce...soooo delicious, but pretty unhealthy 🙁 We figured out some alternatives so we could enjoy this new found snack without totally destroying our diet! We bought a bag of frozen shrimp, used turkey bacon instead of regular bacon, and went with a BBQ sauce that was lower in sugar. YUM! Hope you enjoy these healthier recipes as much as I do! Do you use any healthier substitutes when you cook? What's your favorite high protein snack after a workout?
